GODDARD KEEPS THE LOCALS QUIET!
The Benetton Ford V8, driven by 22 year old South African Earl Goddard, posted the fastest time in this afternoons qualifying session at Circuit Park Zandvoort, giving him his second NDS EuroBOSS pole of the season. The time of 1:26.0747 was set on his 8th lap and was over a second faster than his nearest rival, Englishman Phil Andrews, driving an Ascari Judd V10. The highly competitive qualifying session, in which the lead changed hands 4 times, was appreciated by the large crowd, here in their tens of thousands to enjoy the annual Marlboro Masters festival of racing.

With all eyes on the Dutch drivers, Coronel, Zwart and van Riet,-- all three finishing within the top 6 - it was local hero Tom Coronel who proved the quickest out of the starting blocks. His first quickest lap time was swiftly improved upon by Finn Harri Toivonen, his second-- two seconds faster - seemed set to be the benchmark for the afternoon until the emergence of Goddard who, having posted the fastest lap of the day, then promptly improved on his time on three separate laps. It was excitement to the end as Andrews, lying in fourth place, put in a flying lap to snatch second place in the dying minutes of the session.

Coronel is clearly enjoying his first NDS EuroBOSS outing, driving a V10 Ascari Judd, and will start tomorrow's race from 3rd on the grid, full of optimism but aware that NDS EuroBOSS is fast and competitive and none of the leading contenders for the Series will roll over without a very hard fight.

Current series leader Klaas Zwart had an interesting qualifying session which started with several very competitive laps and ended with him assisting marshals to sweep gravel off the track, after a spin in his Ascari Judd, much to the enjoyment of the large crowds and gathered media.

Colin Stone topped the NDS EuroBOSS Masters class, driving a Ram Hart, in his on-going battle with Series rival Anthony Hansford in a 1988 Eurobrun Judd. The pair are closely matched and Stone will be looking to use his advantage to extend his Series lead.

16 year old Scott Mansell, driving the Mugen powered Reynard in the NDS EuroBOSS 3000 class, once again out-qualified several more powerful machines and will start the race in 11th position.

Earl Goddard, Driver, Kockney Koi Yamistsu:
"I am very pleased with my performance but had some initial concerns about tyre wear which were unfounded. I went out to set a good time and was pleased when I came down the pit straight and saw the timeboard but decided to go for it. I got two good laps in, and brought the time down further to 1:26.074 and am looking forward to the race tomorrow."

Tom Coronel, Driver, Team Ascari:
"I am very pleased to qualify in third position. The cars are a lot faster than I expected and I really enjoyed driving. They definitely score 9 out of 10 on the' fun factor' scale. I am looking forward to the race tomorrow and can go quicker. It is great to be racing in front of my Home crowd and I spotted a lot of support during qualifying. It's fantastic to be here."
