BATTLE HOTS UP FOR EUROBOSS TITLE
An intriguing battle looms as the
NDS EuroBOSS Series arrives at Circuit Park Zandvoort, The Netherlands,
for one of the most prestigious race meetings of the year, the Marlboro
Masters. Taking place over the weekend of 10th/11th August, the Circuit
plays host to the F3 and Formula Ford Championships as well as providing
a fitting backdrop to Europe's fastest motor racing series, NDS
With the previous victories shared between them, former F3000 driver 29
year old Phil Andrews in an Ascari Judd V10 and 22 year old Earl Goddard
driving a 1994 ex-Schumacher V8 Benetton Ford will both be going flat out
to take top honours. South African Earl Goddard arrives at the legendary
Marlboro Masters meeting looking to make it three wins in a row and wrest
victory away from his numerous title challengers-- in a four way
battle with Andrews, Klaas Zwart and Finish star Harri Toivonen-- in
the highly competitive Series for ex-F1, F3000 and Indy Car.
Current Series leader Klaas Zwart, born in Warga near Leeuwarden, has
timed it perfectly as he arrives back in his native country with a higher
points total than Goddard and Andrews. Zwart's consistent driving
performances have paid off, spring-boarding him to the head of the points
table. Driving a Team Ascari V12 Ferrari, he will be looking for his
first win of the season in front of the passionate crowd which is
expected to top the 60,000 mark.
Also looking for success is the classy Robbie Stirling in the Miller Lite
liveried Indy Car, who has impressed driving his ex-Team Rahal Reynard
Cosworth. The sheer size of the ex-Champ Car dwarfs the ex-F1 cars and
Stirling is hoping that the Zandvoort track will suit his powerful racing
In the EuroBOSS Masters there's a head to head between the Eurobrun
of Anthony Hansford and the Ram of Colin Stone, closely matched
throughout the season the outcome of this dual is anyone's guess!
Scott Mansell, the Series' youngest competitor at just 16 years
old, finished top of his class at the previous race and is hoping for
another impressive performance to put him on the winners rostrum.
It will be' music to the ears' as the screaming Ferrari V12,
roaring V10 Footwork, Ascari and Tyrell and the thundering V8 Benettons,
Reyanards and Minardi race at Circuit Park Zandvoort's only
un-silenced event of the year. The relaxed atmosphere means that,
compared to most international motorsport events, it is possible to see
the competing cars at close quarters-- including the 1995 V12
Ferrari formerly driven by Jean Alesi and the 1994 V8 Benetton Ford in
which Michael Schumacher won his first ever F1 Drivers Championship. An
autograph session with all of the NDS EuroBOSS drivers will be held on
Saturday, so meeting stars of the future such as Scott Mansell and Earl
Goddard is a real possibility.
The weekend will be packed full of track action to keep the hoards of
spectators on the edge of their seats. The race package includes F3,
Formula Ford, DTCC, the Renault Clio Cup and the Alfa 147 Challenge along
with the NDS EuroBOSS Series. The NDS EuroBOSS cars take to the track
for untimed practice on Saturday 10th at 10:25, with the battle for grid
positions starting at 14:50. Following a warm-up at 10:30 on Sunday
morning the cars will line up for an F1-style start at 16:40 local time.
Drivers in the EuroBOSS formula currently hold 15 outright lap records
around the circuits of Europe. Will Circuit Park Zandvoort be the next
addition to this impressive record?
